Aan de hand van meteorologische kaarten kon aangetoond worden dan de trek van Hyles livornica in Marokko begon. De oorzaak van deze erg vroege migratie was een combinatie van uitzonderlijke meteorologische omstandigheden en ongewoon grote aantallen van de soort in het land van oorsprong.

De Prins, G.: Chrysodeixis chalcites (Esper, 1789) nu ook in het Antwerpse (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

In 1987 werden drie exemplaren van Chrysodeixis chalcites (Esper, 1789) verzameld in de Antwerpse regio: Zwijndrecht 15 augustus (B. Maes), Niel 30 augustus (W. & G. De Prins) en Merksem 6 september (G. De Prins). De soort was tot nu toe in belgië enkel bekend van twee waarnemingen: Bouillon (provincie Luxembourg) in 1959 en Melle (provincie Oost-Vlaanderen) in 1961/ De Europese verspreiding van deze soort wordt besproken.

Ysebaert T., De Bruyn L., Backeljau T. & Bervoets L.: A contribution to the horse fly fauna of the Ardèche (France) (Diptera: Tabanidae).
Phegea 16(1): 13–17.
During the summer of 1986, a study was made of the entomofauna, and in particular of the Tabanidae, or Horse Flies, of the Ardèche (France). In all, 11 species belonging to 5 genera were caught. Two species (Tabanus exclusus, T. regularis) are typically Mediterranean, while two other (T. briani, T. tergestinus) are typical species of southern Europe. A short discussion of each species is given.

Janssens K.: Tortrix viridana (Linnaeus) in het Peerdsbos (Brasschaat, Antwerpen) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae).

Sinds lang staat Tortrix viridana bekend als een schadelijke soort in bossen, vooral op Quercus robur L. In 1984 kwam de soort talrijk voor in het Peerdsbos te Brasschaat (Provincie Antwerpen) en de auteur volgde nauwlettend de vliegperiodes en de vraatschade veroorzaakt door de rupsen.

Until now no data about the Bombyces and Sphinges from the Ograzden mountain have been published. An inventory caaried out in 1983–1986 resulted in a list of 105 species, mora than half of the number of species in the whole of Bulgaria.

Olivier A.: The butterflies of the Greek island of Límnos (Lepidoptera: Hesperioidea & Papilionoidea).
Phegea 16(2): 33–42.
After a short description of the geography of the Greek island of Límnos and the history of lepidopterological research on the island, the author presents his own observations in the period of 12–16 June 1987, followed by an analysis of the biogeography of the butterflies of Límnos, with reference to ecology, faunistics, systematics and palaeogeography. A comparison is made with the fauna of North-East Greece and with the island of Lesvos. Two species on the island of Lesvos are mentioned here as new for the Greek fauna, i.e. Hipparchia pellucidae (Stauder, 1923) and Maniola megala (Oberthür, 1909). Probably the origin of the Límnos butterfly fauna is North-East Greece and not Asia Minor. The colonisation of the island of Lesvos by Asiatic species probably took place in a rather recent period, after both islands were separated by the sea. That's why these species could not reach Límnos anymore.

Troukens W.: Proserpinus proserpina (Pallas, 1772) in België en het omliggende gebied (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae).

Proserpinus proserpina (Pallas, 1772) is sinds lang een onregelmatige trekvlinder in België. De soort werd in het verleden slechts enkele malen per decennium vermeld uit België en telkens uit het zuidoosten. Vanaf 1980 echter worden er elk jaar meer exemplaren waargenomen, en ook uit andere landsdelen, zelfs tot in West-Vlaanderen. De auteur geeft een overzicht van alle waarnemingen en bespreekt de oorspring van de trek, waarschijnlijk Noord-Frankrijk, Pas de Calais, Meuse. Gewoonlijk legt P. proserpina geen grote afstanden af, maar een populatie leefde bij Hamburg gedurende tien jaar vanaf 1930. In het centrum van Keulen werden 13 rupsen gevonden in 1954 en het eerste Britse exemplaar werd in 1985 gevonden. P. proserpina vliegt in de schemering en wordt door licht aangetrokken, maar meestal wordt de aanwezigheid van de soort bekend door rupsenvondsten op verschillende soorten Epilobium. Ze kunnen gemakkelijk gekweekt worden, al sterven er enkele net vóór verpopping.

After having studied the type specimens of a large number of European species from the genus complex Stenoptilia-Platyptilia, the synonymy of Platyptilia lantanadactyla Amsel, 1951; Platyptilia brunneodactyla D. Lucas, 1955; Platyptilia chapmani Tutt, 1896; Platyptilia leucorrhyncha Meyrick, 1902 and Stenoptilia megalochra Meyrick, 1927 is established. Stenoptilia arvernicus (de Peyerimhoff, 1875) is reestablished as a good species, of which Stenoptilia grandis Chapman, 1908 is considered as a junior subjective synonym.

During an excursion to North Greece, the authors found some populations of Neptis rivularis (Scopoli, 1763) in a mixed forest on the south slopes of the Rhodopi mountains on 25–27 July 1987. This species is mentioned here for the first time from Greece.

De auteur ving een vrouwtje van Actinotia hyperici (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) te Anderlecht (bij Brussel) op 11 augustus 1987. Deze soort is circum-mediterraan en Aziatisch. Het is de eerste maal dat ze uit België wordt vermeld.

Gaskin D. E. & Littler, E. A.: Autumn butterflies on the island of Chios (Greece) (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea & Hesperioidea).

The authors present a list of the butterflies which they observed on the Greek island of Chios in the period of 15–25 September 1985. Four taxa are mentioned for the first time from this island: Pieris mannii (Mayer, 1851), Pontia daplidice (Linnaeus, 1758), Charaxes jasius (Linnaeus, 1767) and Hipparchia fatua (Freyer, 1845). Some interesting phenological pecularities of some species are discussed. The paper also contains corrections of some erroneous earlier records (Gaskin & Littler 1986): records from Chios of Nordmannia acaciae (Fabricius, 1787) and Melitaea cinxia (Linnaeus, 1758) in fact refer to Satyrium ilicis (Esper, 1779) and Melitaea phoebe (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775). The record of Strymonidia spini (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) for the island of Samos also refers to Strymonidia ilicis (Esper, 1779).

Verder worden de reeds bekende vindplaatsen in België van deze soort opgesomd en de habitat van deze soort wordt beschreven en geïllustreerd. Ten slotte worden enkele beheersmaatregelen voorgesteld om de thermofiele flora en fauna – en dus inclusief B. serricauda – te behouden. In de herfst en winter van 1987 zullen deze beheersmaatregelen uitgevoerd worden.

Van den Heuvel R.: Rhyzobius lophantae (Blaisdell), een nieuwe soort voor de Belgische fauna of een toevallig ingevoerd eksemplaar? (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae).

Een exemplaar van Rhyzobius lophantae (Blaisdell) werd verzameld nabij Aalst (Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen) op 21 september 1976. Deze Australische soort werd reeds ingevoerd in de Verenigde Staten, Noord-Afrika, de USSR en Italië.

Het is niet altijd eenvoudig om de soorten uit het genus Pseudatemelia met externe kenmerken alleen te determineren. De auteur onderzocht 53 exemplaren uit dit genus op genitalia en vond een nieuwe soort voor de Belgische fauna: Pseudatemelia latipennella (Jäckh). Het voorkomen van alle vier de Belgische Pseudatemelia-soorten wordt besproken.

van der Poorten, D., Dils J. & Coutsis J. G.: Colias erate (Esper, 1804), a true resident of the Greek butterfly fauna (Lepidoptera: Pieridae).
Phegea 16(4): 123–127.
The authors start with the mention of two previous literature records about the occurrence of Colia erate (Esper, 1804) in Greece, and continue with the recent records of confirmed populations in North-East Greece. The discovery of fresh specimens of the first generation in May 1987, as well as the fact that the authors visited this region 24 times without ever finding this species before 1986, strongly supports the idea of a recent colonisation of this region by Colias erate. Future studies will have to ascertain whether the species can maintain these populations in Greece and perhaps even enlarge its area. The polymorphism of Colias erate is discussed and the most common forms are figured. The parallel variation in Colias crocea (FOurwroy, 1785) is discussed as well. The sympatric and synchronous occurrence of both species, and the intermiary character of the valvae in some specimens of Colias erate f. androconiata Jack and C. erate f. chrysodona Boisduval can possible be related to the possibility of hybridisation between both species. Rearing and crossing experiments would perhaps elucidate this situation.

Pollet M., Mercken L. & Desender K.: Contributions to the knowledge of Dolichopodid flies in Belgium: II. Faunistic data on the Dolichopodid fauna of some nature reserves in the Campines (Prov. Limburg, Antwerpen, Belgium) (Ciptera: Dolichopodidae).

During a short-term survey, several nature reserves in the Campines (Porv. Antwerpen and Limburg) were sampled for dolichopodid flies (Dolichopodidae), mainly by means of net sweeping. A total of 1327 flies were collected, belonging to 53 species. Several species of special faunistic interest were found: Achalcus cinereus Haliday, Campsicnemus alpinus Haliday, Campsicnemus compeditus Loew, Dolichopus rupstris Haliday, Hercostomus angustifrons Staeger, Hydrophorus albiceps Frey and Hydrophorus nebulosus Fallen.
