Troukens W.: Polychrysia moneta (Fabricius, 1787) in de Benelux (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).
Phegea 22(1): 1–8.

Tolman T.: Concerning the pre-imaginal stadia and taxonomy of Polyommatus (Plebicula) sagratrox (Aistleitner, 1986) (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae).
Phegea 22(1): 23–27.
The larval host-plant of Polyommatus (Plebicula) sagratrox, a butterfly species currently believed to be endemic to the Sierra de la Sagra, southern Spain, has been determined as Anthyllis vulneraria arundana. This plant subspecies also occurs in the nearby Sierra Nevada, where it is believed to comprise the sole larval host-plant of Polyommatus (Plebicula) golgus, presently regarded as endemic to the Sierra Nevada and closely related to P. sagratrox. It is argued that the commonality of host-plant detracts appreciably from the justification for the present high-level of taxonomic distinction accredited to P. sagratrox. It is further argued that P. sagratrox is at best a subspecies and, more probably, an ecological form of P. golgus. Superficially at least, no significant differences in the pre-imaginal stadia of P. sagratrox and P. golgus were noted. P. sagratrox hibernates as a larva and is evidently very strongly myrmecophilic. Ants in attendance were determined as Lasius niger.

Phegea 22(2): 53–60.
The variability of Melitaea collina Lederer, 1861 is discussed. From the southeastern part of Turkey a new subspecies is described and illustrated. This new subspecies is compared with the nominate form and with the closely related species M. vedica Nekrutenko, 1974, M. consulis Wiltshire, 1941 and M. turkmanica Higgins, 1940. The male genitalia of these four species are illustrated.

Kolev Z.: Two Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) species new to Bulgaria, with notes on the related Bulgarian taxa (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae).
Phegea 22(2): 61–71.
Polyommatus aroaniensis (Brown, 1975) and P. nephohiptamenos (Brown & Coutsis, 1978) are reported in sympatry from SW Bulgaria (Mt. Alibotush, 1600 m); their identification, phylogeny, aspects of ecology and conservation status are discussed. The previous Bulgarian record of nephohiptamenos from Mt. Rhodopi is shown to be based on misidentification. The number of reliably recorded Bulgarian Lycaenidae thus reaches 57 species. A key to males of the four Bulgarian taxa belonging to the monomorphic Agrodiaetus complex is provided.

Vanholder B.: Macdunnoughia confusa (Stephens, 1850) een areaaluitbreider (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).
Phegea 22(3): 77–80.

Olivier A.: New data on the butterflies of the Greek island of Sími (Lepidoptera: Hesperioidea & Papilionoidea).
Phegea 22(3): 85–88.
The results of a short visit (1–3 June 1993) to the Greek island of Sími are reported. Sixteen butterfly species were observed of which 5 species are recorded here for the first time from this island. In total 25 butterfly species are known to occur on Sími. The most common species in June 1993 was Carcharodus stauderi ambiguus (Verity, 1925). Also Muschampa proto aragonensis de Sagarra, 1924 and Maniola telmessia (Zeller, 1847) were common. The entire butterfly fauna of Sími is also represented on the Turkish mainland and 84% of it also on the Greek mainland. There are no endemics. The fauna originated, very problably, from the Turkish mainland and the colonisation took place rather recently, as well as the gene flow with populations from the adjacent mainland.

Tolman T.: The larval host-plant of Satyrium ledereri (Boisduval, 1848) on the Greek island of Sámos (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae).
Phegea 22(3): 89–95.
The larval host-plant of Satyrium ledereri christianae Olivier, 1989, from the Greek island of Sámos, has been determined as Atraphaxis billardieri var. billardieri (Jaub & Spach, 1844) (Polygonaceae). Superficial descriptions of the larva and pupa are provided. The species hibernates as a larva, presumed to be of the 2nd instar. Whilst evidence relating to the circumstances of discovery of larvae argues for hibernation occurring in bark crevices on the stem of its host-plant, these same observations, in company with other considerations, serve to promote the notion that better hibernating strategies may not only be available but actually exploited. The taxonomic implications of pre-imaginal life-history and host-plant phytochemistry are discussed.

During a study of some female specimens of the subfamily Pyrginae the author discovered a caterpillar in the abdomen of Muschampia proto (Ochsenheimer, 1808) and of Pyrgus serratulae (Rambur, [1839]). Although he explains this phenomenon as hatching of the eggs in the already dead adult, the possibility of ovoviviparity is not excluded.

Tolman T. & Bernhard T.: Significant extensions to the known range of Anthocharis damone Boisduval, 1836 in Greece (Lepidoptera: Pieridae).
Phegea 22(4): 177–180.
The occurrence of Anthocharis damone Boisduval in the Taygetos mountains is reported. This comprises the first fully documented account of this species in the Peloponnesos, southern Greece. The presence of damone on the Greek island of Corfu (Kerkyra) is also reported. This appears to be the first island record for Greece. Small samples of damone taken from the Taygetos and Corfu colonies do not appear to differ significantly from material originating elsewhere in the Balkans. The absence of Anthocharis gruneri Herrich-Schäffer from the damone site on Corfu is noted with interest. The shared use of Isatis tinctoria Linnaeus as a larval host-plant by Anthocharis damone, Pieris ergane (Geyer) and Euchloe simplonia (Freyer) is reported.
