De Prins W. & van der Poorten D.: Rhopalocera and Grypocera of Turkey 14. Taxonomic revision of the Pyrgus alveus (Hübner, [1803]) complex from Greece to West China, with description of two new species from southern Turkey (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae).

The individual and geographic variability of Pyrgus alveus alveus (Hübner, [1803]) is discussed. The reasons why Pyrgus jupei (Alberti, 1967) was for a long time confused with Pyrgus alveus sifanicus Grum-Grshimailo, 1891 are given. A lectotype and 3 paralectotypes are designated for Pyrgus alveus iliensis (Reverdin, 1912). A lectotype and 5 paralectotypes are designated for Pyrgus alveus sifanicus. Pyrgus alveus sifanicus, Pyrgus alveus iliensis, Pyrgus iliensis colurnus Kaufmann, 1954 and Pyrgus alveus confusa Renner, 1991 are synonymized with Pyrgus alveus alveus (Hübner, [1803]). The distribution of Pyrgus alveus alveus in Turkey is extended considerably to the southwest. The individual and geographical variability of Pyrgus jupei is discussed. The known distribution of this taxon is extended to the west. Pyrgus centralasiae Renner, 1991 is synonymized with Pyrgus jupei. Two new species are described: Pyrgus bolkariensis sp. n. from two peaks in the Bolkar Mts. (South Turkey) and Pyrgus aladaghensis sp. n. from the Ala Mts (South Turkey). These species are compared with P. jupei and P. warrenensis (Verity, 1928), with which they have an alpine distribution in common, and with P. alveus with which they occur synchronically and sympatrically. The karyotype of the two new species has been defined. The male and female genitalia of all species under consideration are figures and discussed, if they are known.

Maelfait J.-P.: Recente ontwikkelingen in het projekt betreffende ongewervelde dieren van het Instituut voor Natuurbehoud.
Phegea 23(1): 59–64.
Het I.N.-project betreffende ongewervelden was tijdens de eerste jaren vooral begaan met de evaluatie van de natuurwaarden en de biodiversiteit van verschillende sites in Vlaanderen. Later werd meer aandacht besteed aan de mogelijkheden van een meer effectieve bescherming van de biodiversiteit van de ongewervelden in onze streek. Daarom wordt voorgesteld om Rode Lijsten op te stellen voor bedreigde soorten in Vlaanderen. Het is zeer belangrijk dat deze lijsten enkel soorten bevatten die daadwerkelijk bedreigd zijn in hun voortbestaan in Vlaanderen. Zulke lijsten werden reeds in enkele van onze buurlanden opgesteld en hebben hun nut bewezen, o.a. tijdens het opstellen van natuurrapporten.

The authors describe a new species in the genus Anthrax, of which two specimens were collected by the first author in northwestern Greece. The species is compared with the related Anthrax anthrax (Schrank, 1781). The type specimens of the new species and specimens of A. anthrax are illustrated.

Tolman T.: Concerning the biology and conservation of Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) iphigenia (Herrich-Schäffer, [1847]) in Greece (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae).

The larval host-plant of Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) iphigenia in Greece has been determined as Onobrychis alba. The species hibernates as a small larva. The larva is strongly myrmecophilous. Attending ants have been identified as Lasius alienus. The rarity of iphigenia on the plateau of Mt. Chelmos, Peloponnesos, is attributed to intensive grazing.

The authors describe a new species in the complex of the brown Agrodiaetus species. This species was hitherto confused with Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) admetus (Esper, [1785]). The new species is compared with all other brown species of the subgenus Agrodiaetus.

Troukens W.: Stegania trimaculata (de Villers, 1789) in de Benelux (Lepidoptera: Geometridae).
Phegea 23(3): 133–136.
Stegania trimaculata werd in België op 2 juni 1984 ontdekt te Anderlecht. De soort werd er op dezelfde plaats elk jaar nadien waargenomen, maar nergens anders. De soort vliegt in twee generaties per jaar: mei-juni en juli-augustus. De rups leeft op Populus nigra L. var. italica. De pop overwintert. Tot 1950 liep de noordergrens van het areaal aan de Boven-Rijn. Vanaf dat jaar waagde de soort pogingen om zich meer noordwaarts uit te breiden. Ze bereikte Keulen in 1951, Engeland in 1978, België in 1984 en Nederland in 1987. Deze recente areaaluitbreiding wordt mede mogelijk gemaakt door het aanplanten van de voedselplant in parken, sportvelden, begraafplaatsen, spoorwegstations en industriële zones.

In September 1994, Menophra trypanaria (Wiltshire, 1948) was caught regularly in light traps in South Turkey. This species was known until now only from 1 female. The male is described in this paper.

Exemplaren van Synanthedon affinis (Staudinger, 1856) werden in twee collecties aangetroffen. Het ene exemplaar dateert reeds uit 1952. De onderscheidende kenmerken van deze soort, haar algemene verspreiding en voedselplant worden besproken.

Steeno R.: Eerste vondst van Brintesia circe (Fabricius, 1775) in België (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae, Satyrinae).
Phegea 23(3): 144.
Op 4 augustus 1994 werd een dood vrouwtje van Brintesia circe (Fabricius, 1775) gevonden langs de weg van Zussen naar Helderen (provincie Limburg). Dit is het eerste exemplaar van deze soort dat ooit in de Benelux werd gevonden.

Coutsis J. G. & Ghavalas N.: Notes on Polyommatus icarus (Rottemburg, 1775) in Greece and description of a new Polyommatus Latreille, 1804 from northern Greece (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae).

The external morphology, biology, phenology and distribution in North Greece of the widely distributed Polyommatus icarus (Rottemburg, 1775) are discussed. Depending on the locality three or possibly four annual generations are produced (two in higher altitudes). Specimens of the first generationare larger and have a larger, metallic basal suffusion on the underside. A new, closely related species is described from three neighbouring mountains in the district of Dráma in Greek Macedonia, Polyommatus andronicus sp. n. This species flies in only one generation per year from end June till early August, at an altitude of 1000–1800 m. It flies synchronous and syntopic with the second generation of P. icarus and it is distinguished by following characters: somewhat darker and more brillant colour on the upperside in the male, larger wing length, submarginal spots more brown-orange, bigger male genitalia and a much broader and massive henia in the female genitalia.

Cosmiotes cornutifera sp. n. is described from Far-Eastern Russia (Primoskiy Kray). The male external features, genitalia and wing venation are described and figured in detail. A provisional check-list of Elachistidae species of Far-Eastern Russia is provided. Fifteen species are recorded for the region for the first time.

The author reports on a breeding of Polyommatus (Aricia) torulensis of which he obtained some eggs from a female captures in the type-locality. The caterpillars fed only on Erodium acaule and E. sibthropianum. They did not accept species of Geranium although this is the main plant genus on which several Aricia species feed. A description of the first stages is given.

Henderickx H.: Boreus hiemalis (Linnaeus, 1767) en Ptilocephala plumifera (Ochsenheimer, 1810), weinig gesignaleerde soorten van het inkrimpend heide-stuifzand biotoop (Mecoptera: Boreidae; Lepidoptera: Psychidae).
Phegea 23(4): 173–177.
Tijdens het zoeken naar rupsen van Ptilocephala plumifera in zandige biotopen in de Kempen (provincie Antwerpen) ontdekt de auteur enkele exemplaren van Boreus hiemalis. Deze soort was in België tot nu toe enkel vermeld uit de Hoge Venen (provincie Luik) en het Zoniënwoud (provincie Brabant). Informatie over het voorkomen en de algmene verspreiding van deze soort wordt meegedeeld.

Beshkov S. & Vassilev D.: Cucullia fraterna Butler, 1878 – a new species for the Balkan Peninsula (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

Cucullia fraterna Butler, 1878 is a rare species in Europe where it is only known from steppes in Ukraine. Recently 21 specimens were caught on light near the Donau in Northeastern Bulgaria. The flight period is from mid May till early August. In this paper the first European specimens of this species are illustrated. Also photographs of the male and female genitalia are figured, as well as drawings of the everted vesica. A UTM map shows the locality in Bulgaria.

Beshkov S.: A contribution to the knowledge of the Bulgarian Lepidoptera fauna (Lepidoptera: Macrolepidoptera).

Four new species from the family Noctuidae are reported for the fauna of Bulgaria: Zebeeba falsalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1839), Leucania herrichi Herrich-Schäffer, 1849, Dioszeghyana schmidtii (Dioszeghy, 1935), Rhyacia arenacea (Hampson, 1907) and two new genera: Zebeeba Kirby, 1892 and Dioszeghyana Hreblay, 1993. One Geometridae species Colostygia lineolata (Fabricius, 1794) is new for Bulgaria too. The species Agriopis beschkovi Ganev, 1987, known till now only from the type material, is illustrated for the first time in colour. Data for some rare species in Bulgaria and two UTM maps are given.
