Volgende bijeenkomst in het Vrieselhof – zaterdag 19 april
Hierbij worden alle leden van de V.V.E. uitgenodigd op de bijeenkomst in het Vrieselhof (Ranst-Oelegem) van 14.00 tot 17.00 uur, met mogelijkheid om de herwerkte collecties te bezoeken en de nieuwste entomologische literatuur te raadplegen.
Meld je wel op voorhand aan zodat we een overzicht krijgen van het aantal aanwezigen. Stuur daarvoor een mailtje naar secretaris of contacteer het meldpunt op 0468.46.85.30.

Volgende bijeenkomst VVE WG Dagvlinders – zaterdag 29 maart 2025
I.v.m. brandveiligheid is inschrijven verplicht !
De vorige bijeenkomst ging voor de eerste keer door in de Torenzaal CC Lokeren en omdat dit iedereen kon bekoren, zullen we deze locatie t.n.o. behouden voor volgende edities. In principe zal er steeds een bijeenkomst in het voorjaar plaatsvinden en één in het najaar, maar er bestaat de mogelijkheid om een extra bijeenkomst te houden, afhankelijk van het aanbod aan onderwerpen.
Wie b.v. een presentatie wil geven van zijn/haar dagvlinderreis en dit op een avond wil brengen in de week, kan ook best contact opnemen via vvewgdagvlinders@telenet.be en dan bekijken we samen de mogelijkheden.

16th International Congress on the Zoogeography and Ecology of Greece and Adjacent Regions – 3 to 6 July 2025, in Athens, Greece

Our member Ioannis Anastasiou together with his colleagues organises the 16th International Congress on the Zoogeography and Ecology of Greece and Adjacent Regions (ICZEGAR) which will be held in Athens, from July 3rd to 6th 2025, at the Eugenides Foundation. The Organizing Committee warmly invites you to attend the Congress and opens the call for roundtables, workshops, and symposia on specific topics. The Congress welcomes studies related to all aspects of animal biodiversity (terrestrial, subterranean, freshwater, and marine) within the geographical region that includes the Balkan and Italian peninsulas, Anatolia, as well as the Near East and the Mediterranean coasts of north-eastern Africa.
The Congress will be held at the Eugenides Foundation (https://www.eef.edu.gr/en) in Athens, from Thursday 3 July to Sunday 6 July 2025. Social networks will deliver regular information on the organization of the event. Follow them on Facebook!

On 25 February 2025 our Council member Wim Veraghtert gave a lecture about our Society to the academic public of the Biological faculties of the University of Antwerp in the very impressive new building O on the campus Drie Eiken.
We are proud to be invited to present our Society on this level, but also proud of YOU, our dear members, that we have important and interesting results to show to the academic world what our FES members have achieved during the last years.

From 3 to 16 February 2025 two Council members of FES Jurate and Willy were on a mission to the Ditsong Museum of Natural History in Pretoria, South Africa. We went not on safari to chase lions, cheetahs and gibbons (though we did on Sunday on 9 February (Happy birthday to Willy) but to the Lepidoptera Collection of this great Museum, to which many famous entomologists, including Aurivillius, Meyrick, Haegel and Janse contributed. Our purpose was to enhance, update and correct the relational Afromoths database available at www.afromoths.net. This is the best taxonomic website in the world updatable in real time!
With more than 2000 photographs of types and verified specimens in less than 10 days we achieved our goal. Now the work will start to make our photographing work structured and machine-readable. This taxonomic website is a nice result of many years of cooperation between taxonomists (Jurate and Willy) and GBIF IT experts.
This is another achievement to be very proud of! |

Ons medelid, Ief Peeters, schreef zijn ervaringen en kennis over het genus Carabus neer in een vlot lezend boek van 260 pagina's. Het boek bevat niet minder dan 389 kleurenfoto's en de tekst is in het Engels opgesteld omwille van de internationale interesse voor dit genus.

Catalogue of the Lepidoptera of Belgium
Aan de website "Catalogue of the Lepidoptera of Belgium" wordt door enkele admins dagelijks gewerkt. Vooral voor de dagvlinders zoeken we nog medewerkers. Wil je graag teksten of foto's toevoegen, neem dan contact op met Jurate De Prins. Wil je zelf geen admin worden maar je beschikt wel over foto's van dagvlinders of motten (en zeker van hun eerste stadia) neem dan contact op met Jurate De Prins of Chris Steeman.
