Troukens W.: Vondst van Brachycerus albidentatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in België.
Phegea 39(1): 1–2.
Op 25 februari 1981 werd een beschadigd exemplaar van Brachycerus albidentatus Gyllenhal, 1840 gevonden te Anderlecht (België). Deze soort komt voor in het centrale Middellandse Zeegebied en het exemplaar is ongetwijfeld een adventief.

Jacobs M. & De Prins W.: Aristotelia subdecurtella, a species new to Belgium (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae).
Phegea 39(1): 3–7.
Several specimens of Aristotelia subdecurtella (Stainton, 1858) have been found in the nature area "Kleine Netevallei" at Viersel (Belgium, Province of Antwerp) in the period 2003–2010, leg. J. Jacobs. These are the first known specimens of this species from Belgium. The distribution in Europe, habitat and biology of the species are briefly discussed and the morphological differences with closely related species are summarized.

Jakšic P.: Melitaea arduinna (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae): a new species for Serbia.
Phegea 39(1): 8–11.
The discovery of the butterfly Melitaea arduinna (Esper, 1783) in Serbia is reported. This is the first record of this species for Serbia. The morphology is compared with that of the similar Melitaea cinxia (Linnaeus, 1758) and M. telona Fruhstorfer, 1908. The phytocenology of the habitat is portrayed and the distribution of the species in the Balkan Peninsula analysed. The degree of habitat endangerment for this species is discussed, and a proposal for the status of this species in Serbia is given.

Coutsis J. C. & van Oorschot H.: Differences in the male and female genitalia between Iphiclides podalirius and Iphiclides feisthamelii, further supporting species status for the latter (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae).

The taxonomy of Iphiclides podalirius vs I. feisthamelii is reviewed historically and new genitalic evidence is presented, further supporting the view that these two taxa are specifically distinct.

Versigghel J., Martens Ch. & Van de Meutter F.: Het wilgenplatvoetje Platycheirus discimanus (Diptera: Syrphidae) terug van weggeweest.
Phegea 39(1): 23–27.
Platycheirus discimanus (Loew, 1871) is één van de vroegste voorjaarssoorten onder de zweefvliegen. De vliegtijd is kort en start begin april. Half mei is de soort reeds volledig verdwenen. Wordt deze Platycheirus daardoor over het hoofd gezien of is hij werkelijk zo goed als uitgestorven bij ons? En wijzen de recente waarnemingen op een heropleving? Vast staat dat het precies 60 jaar geleden was dat de soort voor het laatst werd gerapporteerd in Vlaanderen, voordat ze in het voorjaar van 2010 terug opdook in drie Vlaamse provincies.

Razak N., Saini M. S. & Ahmad I.: Report of the genus Chrysoesthia (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) from the biodiversity hotspot region of Kashmir Himalaya, India – A supplement to Palaearctic elements in the insect fauna of Kashmir Himalaya.

Chrysoesthia sexgutella (Thunberg, 1794) (Lepidoptera:Gelechiidae) has been encountered in biodiversity hot spot region of Kashmir Himalaya. This is the first report of the genus from the Oriental region in general and the Indian region in particular. Geographical distribution of the moth and nature and extent of the damage inflicted by it are discussed. Economic importance of the host plant in terms of folk medicine has also been highlighted.

Baugnée J.-Y.: La cicadelle du laurier Synophropsis lauri (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) en Belgique.
Phegea 39(1): 34–38.
Many specimens of Synophropsis lauri (Horváth, 1897) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) were caught in September–October 2008 and 2009 on the hillside of the old citadel of Liège, all by sweeping of Hedera helix. It is the most northern occurrence of this pontomediterranean species. The leafhopper appears to be polyphagous on evergreen shrubs with a preference for bay (Laurus nobilis).

Meert R.: Metoecus paradoxus (Coleoptera: Ripiphoridae) te Oost-Vlaanderen.
Phegea 39(1): 39–40.
Op 10 juli 2008 werd een exemplaar van Metoecus paradoxus (Linnaeus, 1761) gevonden, rustend op de onderkant van een blad Carpinus betulus in een tuin te Lebbeke (Oost-Vlaanderen). Enkele andere interessante insecten uit dezelfde tuin worden vermeld.

Troukens W.: Een immigrant uit Australië: Phoracantha semipunctata (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae).
Phegea 39(2): 41–42.
Door de toenemende handelsactiviteiten met Australië en Nieuw-Zeeland worden in Europa steeds meer keversoorten opgemerkt die afkomstig zijn uit deze regio’s. Op 24 mei 2005 werd een exemplaar van Phoracantha semipunctata (Fabricius, 1775) (Cerambycidae) gevangen in het plaatsje Olhos d’Agua (Portugal). Deze boktor is afkomstig uit Australië waar de larven zich ontwikkelen in eucalyptushout. De kever is tegenwoordig te vinden in het Middellandse-Zeegebied waar hij zich thuisvoelt in aanplantingen van eucalyptusbossen.

Coutsis J. G. & Anastassíu H. T.: Skippers, Butterflies and a Harvester Moth recorded on the Greek island of Sími, late April 2010 (Lepidoptera: Hesperioidea, Papilionoidea, Zygaenidae).

The results of two days’ collecting on the Greek Island of Sími are being presented together with an account of the island’s previous lepidopterological records. Gegenes pumilio and Nymphalis polychloros are reported from Sími for the first time and Jordanita anatolica is reported as new to the Greek fauna. Moreover, unusual FW upperside and HW underside colour features in male Satyrium ilicis are being presented and discussed.

Het eerste Belgische exemplaar van Hypena obsitalis (Hübner, 41813) wordt gemeld uit Wenduine aan de Vlaamse kust (provincie West-Vlaanderen).

Baugnée J.-Y. & Ellis W. N.: Aspilapteryx limosella (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), new to the Belgian fauna.

During the autumn of 2009, several mines of Aspilapteryx limosella (Duponchel, 1843) were found on Teucrium chamaedrys L. (Lamiaceae) in two xerothermic localities in the south of Belgium, resp. in Resteigne (Prov. of Luxembourg) and in Dinant (Prov. of Namur). It is the fist time that this rare species is mentioned in a Benelux country. Information about the biology and geographical distribution of this species is given.

Dinca V., Cuvelier S. & Mølgaard M. S.: Distribution and conservation status of Pseudophilotes bavius (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) in Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania).

Pseudophilotes bavius (Eversmann, 1832) is a butterfly species of European conservation concern (listed in Annexes II and IV of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC) with a restricted and fragmented distribution. In Romania, where it reaches the north-western limit of its range, P. bavius has disjunct populations: Transylvania in the north-west and Dobrogea in the south-east, with a gap of about 400 km between the two. In this study we provide an overview on the distribution of P. bavius in Dobrogea, while reporting three new sites which double the number of known localities and extend the species’ distribution about 60 km north in this region. The known and potential distribution, habitat, phenology and conservation status of P. bavius in Dobrogea are discussed.

Wullaert S.: Psammotis pulveralis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), a new species for the Belgian fauna.

The first Belgian specimen of Psammotis pulveralis (Hübner, 1796) was observed during a nocturnal excursion at Rongy (Province of Hainaut) on 01 August 2009. Information on the biology and distribution of this species is presented.

Garrevoet T. & Garrevoet W.: Bembecia lingenhoelei, a new Clearwing moth from Tajikistan (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae).

A new species of Bembecia Hübner, [1819] was collected in Tajikistan (Central Asia) in the Hissar Mountains north of the capital Dushanbe. Both genders and their genitalia as well as the egg are described and illustrated.

Veraghtert W. & De Prins W.: Lepteucosma huebneriana, nieuw voor de Belgische fauna (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae).

Tijdens een waarneming van nachtvlinders in de Molenbeekvallei te Veltem-Beisem (Provincie Vlaams-Brabant) werden op 14 juli 2010 vijf exemplaren van Lepteucosma huebneriana verzameld in een Skinnerval. Dit is de eerste vermelding van deze soort voor België. De kenmerken, ecologie en verspreiding in Europa worden meegedeeld.

Székely L., Dinca V. & Juhász I.: Macrolepidoptera from the steppes of Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania).
Phegea 39(3): 85–106.
Based on material collected during 2007–2009, we report 225 species of macrolepidoptera from the steppes of Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania). Besides numerous rare species with particular ecological preferences, we report Tarachidia candefacta (Hübner, [1831]) (Noctuidae) and Rhodostrophia discopunctata Amsel, 1935 (Geometridae) for the first time in the Romanian entomofauna. Several taxa of high zoogeographical significance for the Romanian and European fauna are commented. The conservation status and interest of the steppe areas from Dobrogea is brought into discussion.

Van de Meutter F.: The distribution and status of the rare Rhingia borealis and Rhingia rostrata in Belgium (Diptera: Syrphidae).
Phegea 39(3): 107–114.
In this paper we provide an overview of all currently known records of Rhingia borealis and R. rostrata in Belgium. Inspection of collection material showed that R. borealis since long belongs to the Belgian fauna, but was confused with R. rostrata. Recent observations indicate that it still occurs with some prosperous populations in the extreme east of Belgium. Re-inspection of R. rostrata collection material revealed 10 historical Belgian records, the latest dating back to 1945. In 2009, R. rostrata was again observed in Belgium at three localities in the Hautes Fagnes possibly indicating a revival of this species.

Cuvelier S. & Spruytte S.: De huidige status van Brenthis daphne (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae, Heliconiinae) in België en aangrenzende gebieden. Update en notities betreffende een onverwachte vondst.
Phegea 39(3): 115–119.
Het blijkt dat Brenthis daphne (Bergsträsser, 1780) snel zijn areaal noordwaarts uitbreidt binnen Europa. Het is pas in 2006 dat de soort voor het eerst gemeld werd uit de Gaume (Zuidoost-België). We geven een overzicht van de situatie, eind 2010, in België en melden een onverwachte vondst van een dood exemplaar in Ploegsteert (enclave van Henegouwen in West-Vlaanderen).

Enkele nieuwe provinciegegevens en interessante waarnemingen van Lepidoptera uit 2010 worden vermeld. De meest opmerkelijke daarvan is de adventieve soort Lepidotarphius perornatellus (Walker, 1864) (Glyphipterigidae), van oorsprong uit het Oost-Palaearctische gebied, die hier voor het eerst uit Europa wordt gemeld.

The fauna of Braconidae (Hymenoptera) from Khorasan province and vicinity, northeastern Iran is studied in this paper. Totally 21 species from 13 genera and 9 subfamilies (Agathidinae, Alysinae, Brachistinae, Braconinae, Cheloninae, Euphorinae, Hormiinae, Opiinae, Rogadinae) were collected. Of these, 3 species: Aleiodes (Aleiodes) esenbeckii (Hartig), Bracon (Orthobracon) epitriptus Marshal,l and Perilitus (Townesilitus) bicolor (Wesmael) are new records for Iran.

Coutsis J. G.: The male genitalia of N American Icaricia lupini and I. acmon; how they differ from each other and how they compare to those of the other two members of the group, I. neurona and I. shasta (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae, Polyommatiti).

The male genitalia of Icaricia lupini and I. acmon are figured and described, and their differences shown, providing a better means for proper identification of these two morphologically similar species. A comparison of their respective male genitalia to those of the other two species in the group, namely I. neurona and I. shasta, is carried out and the differentiating genitalic characters between all four species are shown.

Troukens W.: Een nieuwkomer voor de Belgische keverfauna: het Australisch mierkevertje, Paratillus carus (Coleoptera: Cleridae).
Phegea 39(4): 152–155.
Paratillus carus (Newman, 1840) werd voor het eerst in België gevonden te Hamme (Oost-Vlaanderen) op 12 juni 2006. Deze Australische kever had zich reeds tijdens de vorige eeuw gevestigd in Groot-Brittannië en Frankrijk. In Frankrijk breidde hij zijn areaal vrij snel uit en dus kan verwacht worden dat de soort zich ook naar de aangrenzende landen zal uitbreiden. P. carus is een predator van allerlei cylofage insecten, vooral van Lyctus-soorten.

On 11 October 2007 a case of Coleophora trigeminella Fuchs, 1881 (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) was found on Crataegus monogyna L. (Rosaceae) in a damp forest glen at Crupet (province of Namur). It is the first record of this species for the Belgian fauna. Details on the biology and distribution of the moth are provided.
